OUR STORY
Lift Our Voices was born from personal experience and the realization that far too many workers were facing the same injustice. After confronting sexual harassment and retaliation in their own careers, Gretchen Carlson and Julie Roginsky experienced firsthand how powerful institutions use nondisclosure agreements, forced arbitration, and other legal mechanisms to silence employees and conceal bad workplace behavior.
As Gretchen and Julie began sharing their stories, they heard from thousands of people across the country who had endured harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and abuse at work. Many had been denied the opportunity to seek justice in the courts or even speak truthfully about what had happened to them. It became clear that workplace toxicity was not a series of isolated incidents but a systemic problem sustained by secrecy.
In 2019, Gretchen and Julie launched Lift Our Voices to challenge that system. They set out to eliminate the silencing mechanisms that protect predators, while empowering workers to reclaim their voices and advocating for laws that make workplaces safer, fairer, and more transparent.
Today, Lift Our Voices continues to turn individual experiences into collective action. By educating the public, partnering with advocates and policymakers, and holding institutions accountable, we are working toward a future where no one must surrender their voice simply to earn a living. Because every worker deserves a voice.
When Gretchen Carlson spoke out about her experience of workplace sexual harassment, it inspired women everywhere to take their power back and tell the world what happened to them. In a remarkable, fierce talk, she tells her story -- and identifies three specific things we can all do to create safer places to work. "We will no longer be underestimated, intimidated or set back," Carlson says. "We will stand up and speak up and have our voices heard. We will be the women we were meant to be."
